Alex’s Kick – Peterborough United v Sheffield Wednesday

Our last Kick at London Road for the 2012/13 season was for the massive relegation battle between Peterborough United and Sheffield Wednesday, which had the added attraction of being on Sky Sports.

Alex was our mascot for the day, he was nominated to us by our friends at Little Miracles, who we have worked with all season. He came along with his family and we met him in the David Seaman Suite, where he was already changed into his new Posh kit.

It was a busy day for mascots so Simon and Gavin were both on duty to look after them and our first destination was the dressing room, where Alex got his programme signed by all the players. We then moved on to the referee’s room, Alex got a chance to handle the match ball there and hold up the substitutes board. We met up with Peter Burrow on our way to pitchside and there was the chance to sit in the managers seats in the dug out. Next we all made our way over to the South Stand where we visited the directors box and the Noel Cantwell Suite and get his face painted, before making our way around the pitch to the boardroom and a chance for a picture in front to of the trophy cabinet.

We then headed back to the Seaman Suite, where we kept up with the other results in the league on a nervous day! Alex was then taken down to the pitch where he had a kick about with the other mascots and ended the session by scoring and celebrating in front of the huge London Road End crowd.

The next time we saw Alex he was coming out of the tunnel with captain Tommy Rowe, in front of the live TV audience and a near full house at London Road. He then joined the rest of the family to watch as the Posh scraped a 1-0 win!

Thank you to all at Peterborough United for their help on Alex’s day and throughout the season and also to Michelle at Little Miracles for nominating Alex.
