We had four final mascots at Chesterfield this season;all organised by Tony Duly from Fairplay, an organisation we have worked with for several years now. Fairplay supports children and young people with disabilities and additional needs, and their families, across North Derbyshire and we have donated ten mascot packages to them this season, to distribute amongst the families they work with.
Chris and Tom were the lucky ones selected to attend the match against Sheffield United in April; both boys love football and were delighted to be chosen by Tony. The boys’ mum, Mary, contacted us afterwards and said:
“I am writing to say a huge thank you for making it possible for my two boys Christopher and Tom to have an amazing day with Chesterfield FC. Christopher woke up on Saturday morning and said “the day has finally arrived…I’m so excited”. I am so grateful that such an amazing organisation as yours have made my boys so happy and given them a day to remember. From putting on their new Chesterfield FC kit to leading the team out for the match you have made my 2 boys so happy and thank you just doesn’t seem enough. I was honoured when Tony said he would like to organise the day for the boys and I have to say it was such a memorable day that we will treasure…..thank you so much”.
At the fixture against Bury, also in April, brothers Reece and Nial were the mascots. Their parents, Glen and Rachel, didn’t tell them about the surprise until the day before the game as they feared they would not sleep with excitement!
All four boys received a new Chesterfield football kit to wear on the day, and keep afterwards, met the players and led the teams out onto the pitch at the start of the game.
Our thanks go to Tony from Fairplay and all at Chesterfield FC for another successful season.
