Last Friday we visited The Memorial Stadium in Bristol for Drew’s Kick at the game between Bristol Rovers and Peterborough United.
Drew who is 7 years old was nominated to be mascot by Jane Thomas at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and came along with his dad, grandad and friend Alfie to enjoy the evening’s hospitality.
After arriving at the ground Drew was presented with his new Rovers football kit which he immediately got changed into. They were all then taken on a tour of the ground and got to see all they key behind-the-scenes areas including the dressing rooms. Next it was onto the Uplands Suite where they were all treated to a slap-up three course carvery meal.
Next on the agenda was a kick-about with the other mascot and a coach while both Rovers and Posh were warming up prior to kick-off. Finally Drew was the star of the show, leading the team out and taking part in the Fair Play handshake with the opposition and officials. He ran back to his seat ready for the start of the game and, with his family and Alfie, watched a thrilling 2-2 draw unfold in front of them.
Drew’s Mum, Rachel, said afterwards that he had enjoyed every second of his evening…and so had his dad and grandad! We hope to get some additional photgraphs soon that the family took on the evening and, when we do, we will add a couple to this report.
Special thanks go to all at Bristol Rovers for their hospitality on the day, in particular Leah, who helped us arrange Drew’s evening out.
