This was our second visit of the season to The Valley, after Alfie’s kick back in October. The mascot for this game between Charlton and Peterborough United was Dylan. He was nominated by our friends from Demelza Hospice in Eltham, who we have worked with many times before on Kicks in London.
Dylan came along for his treat with dad Dave, mum Sue and brothers Gethin and Emlyn. We met up with them and our mascot host for the day Sue Gallop, and were treated to a tour of the ground, including the boardroom, where Sue told us all about all of the trophies and memorabilia in the cabinets.
Then it was time for Dylan to go off to meet the players in the dressing room and manager Chris Powell, before having a kick about on the pitch with the other mascot and then going back down the tunnel to line up with goalkeeper Ben Hamer as the players came out on to the pitch.
The family took their seats and watched as Charlton scored two late goals to win the game.
Thank you to everybody at Charlton Athletic for their brilliant hospitality, especially Sue for her fantastic tour. Also thanks to Charlton Live for having me on to talk about Free Kicks ahead of the game and, of course, Sue Gedge from Demelza for nominating Dylan for his Kick.
