Oakwell was our destination last weekend for the Championship match between Barnsley and Peterborough United. Our recipient was again nominated by our friends at Bluebell Wood Hospice and James came along with dad Jonathan and mum Tina to be our VIP mascot for the day.
The mist was just clearing as we met James and his family outside the ground, James was telling us it was his first ever football match and how much he was looking forward to it. We took a couple of pictures before he was whisked off for a stadium tour and to meet the players.
Next time we saw James he was out on the pitch in his new Barnsley kit with his name on the back! He went for a kick-about with the other mascots as well as furry friends Peter Burrow and Toby Tyke. James also managed to get his picture taken with Posh boss Darren Ferguson before heading off down the tunnel to meet Barnsley manager, Keith Hill, as well as the referee. Then it was time for his big moment…walking out onto the pitch with the teams and taking part in the fairplay handshake before heading to his seat in the stand to watch as Barnsley ran out 1-0 winners.
We received an email from Tina during the week thanking us for their “magical” day!
Would would like to thank all at Barnsley FC and Bluebell Wood for their help giving James a fantastic day.
