Our first ‘Kicks’ of the season were at the Posh’s pre season friendly at home to Nottingham Forest. We were delighted to take up the offer of sponsoring the match and being able to give Johnny, Deiter and Leo a great day out.
Johnny is a huge Posh fan and well known to many who stand in the London Road End and was nominated by his friend Brett Palmer.
Deiter was nominated for the day by his Uncle Mick Pallet, who works with Free Kicks supporter Matt Booth.
Last but not least was Leo, he came to our notice after articles in the local paper and on BBC Look East. Leo’s family are trying to raise £46,000 so that he can have an operation to enable him to walk. We wanted to raise awareness of his course and give him a day to remember. You can read more about Leo here http://www.helpleo2walk.co.uk/ .
The day started off with all of us being greeted in reception by ex Posh legend Tommy Robson, who was going to be our host for the day. After time for a drink in the Sponsors Lounge, we were taken on a tour of the ground and the chance to meet the players in the dressing rooms.
Then it was back to the lounge for a fantastic meal, while Deiter went off and had a kickabout on the pitch with the other mascots.
After the meal we took our seats in the Main Stand to watch Posh beat Nottingham Forest 1-0, with a goal from George Boyd. Johnny had the huge repsonsibiity of deciding who was Man of The Match and chose friend of Free Kicks, Charlie Lee.
Once the game was over we headed back to the Sponsors Lounge where we were joined by Barry Fry, who presented us with a signed shirt. Later on Charlie Lee came along to pick up his Man of The Match champagne and brought Joe Lewis and Aaron Mclean along with him to meet everybody.
We were also joined on the day by Patrick Smith, Steph Tod and Ed Willmott, who helped us out with our Wear Your Shirt To Work Day earlier in the year.
A huge thanks to everybody at Posh, especially Alex Harris, Tommy Robson and Tony Broughton for making it a really special day for us and all of our guests
