We had a double Kick at Vicarage Road this weekend when the first two of six children, who were nominated to us by Mencap in Watford, were our mascots as The Hornets took on Peterborough United in The Championship.
We met them outside their ground, both already in their new kits and excited about the day ahead, before we were greeted by Rod and DJ who look after the mascots on match days and then taken inside the stadium where we were given a rundown of what would happen before kick off.
Players from both teams arrived which gave the children chance for pictures and then it was time to head into the Watford dressing room where Mariah and Ryan had their programmes signed. Next on the list was a visit to the Manager’s Office to meet Sean Dyche and his assistant Ian Woan for more autographs.
Next up for the children was a kick about on the pitch with the other mascots although they both seemed far more interested in chasing the Posh mascot, Peter Burrow!
Kick off time was looming so it was back into the tunnel ready to come out with their favourite player onto the pitch and join in the fairplay handshake before taking their seats in the stand for the match.
We would like to thank all at Watford FC especially Ann Watt for helping us organise the events and Rod and DJ for looking after us so well on the day.
