We were recently offered a fantastic opportunity by the commercial department at Peterborough United, to be part sponsors for the home game with Derby County. We were also delighted that the other sponsors on the day were our friends from Edmundson Electrical, who are big supporters of Free Kicks!
We decided it would be a fantastic opportunity to take children from two special schools in the city along to experience the excitement of match day hospitality. We invited Marshfields and Heltwate Schools to bring along six people from each to be our guests, a mixture of teachers and children.
Once everybody arrived in the Sponsors Lounge we were taken on a tour of the ground where the children were very excited to meet the players and get pictures and autographs. After visiting the executive boxes in the family stand and the boardroom we returned to the lounge where a fantastic meal was served up. During the meal Posh manager, Darren Ferguson, kindly visited us for a short Q and A session.
While the rest of us took our seats in the stand, the children had the honour of heading to the centre of the pitch to have their picture taken with the captains and match officials. With Posh leading 1-0 at half time we returned to the warm for cake and coffee, before heading back out to see Posh seal a comfortable 3-0 victory. We also had the tricky job of picking the man of the match, which was a democratic decision between both parties and went to Saido Berahino, who scored two of the goals.
While waiting for Saido to join us and receive his champagne, Barry Fry popped in to present a signed, framed shirt and pose for pictures.
Everybody had a fantastic day, we were looked after brilliantly as usual by everybody at the club.
We would like to thank Alex Harris and his team, as well as Paul and the guys from Edmundson Electrical for their generosity on the afternoon.
