Our first Kicks of the season took place at the League Cup game at London Road between Peterborough United and Southend United. We were proud to sponsor the game and took along as our guests Mille, Ellie, Charlie and Lexi and their parents who were nominated by good friend of Free Kicks, Andy Mason. Also joining us was Martin, who travelled all the way from his family holiday in Caistor, and his friend Ryan.
The children arrived in their new Posh shirts with their names on the back and were very excited about their evening. We were shown to the Sponsors Lounge where our host, Posh legend Tommy Robson, introduced himself and gave us a run down of what was going to happen before kick off.
After time for a drink we were taken down to the dressing room where the Posh players were happy to pose for pictures and sign autographs, before a quick visit to the away dressing room and the referee’s room. Then it was time to tour the rest of the ground, avoiding the sprinklers and over to look at the boxes in the main stand. We arrived back in the sponsors lounge in time for dinner to be served and then the moment everybody was waiting for…the chance for the children to go out on to the pitch with their favourite players! Martin also had the chance to walk out to the centre circle where he met Posh mascot Peter Burrow and then they all were photographed with the captains and officials.
The next important job was to pick the man of the match, which was pretty difficult considering the Posh ran out 4-0 winners with all players performing well! The consensus was that Lee Tomlin deserved the honour and he joined us in the sponsors lounge after the game for pictures and to received his champagne. We also had a visit from Barry Fry who presented us with a framed, signed shirt and thanked us for our sponsorship.
All in all a brilliant evening, it was fantastic to see Martin’s face when we gave him a framed picture of his pitch appearance and to see the children really enjoying their experience.
Thank you to Andy and Ryan for nominating our recipients and to everybody at Posh for their fantastic hospitality.
