We were privileged to be match sponsors for the last of Peterborough United’s pre season friendlies, at home to Premier League Hull City.
To celebrate we took along eight youngsters Connor, Alex, Charlie, Mohammed-Kasim, Megan, Oliver, Samantha and Danielle from Peterborough Young Carers for an evening of fine food and hospitality. We were to be based in the Executive Suite at London Road, where our host was Posh legend, Tommy Robson. The evening started with a trip to the dressing room where we met the players and posed for pictures and got autographs. We were shown the away dressing room and the referee’s room, before heading down the tunnel to pitchside and first view of the lush pitch. Next we walked around the pitch to the family stand, executive boxes, Noel Cantwell Suite and, a first for the regulars amongst us, a trip to the Control Room in the corner of the ground.
By this time we were all hungry and headed back to the suite for our slap up carvery meal. Just after we had finished it was time for the eight youngsters and their leaders from the Young Carers organisation to head down on to the pitch to line up with the captains, match officials and of course Peter Burrow!
They all returned to their seats shortly in to the half, in which Hull took a 1-0 lead with a magnificent goal! At half time there was more food, this time cake, which we were all happy to help consume. We returned for the second half in which Hull replaced one of our ambassadors, George Boyd, by another, Aaron McLean! There were no more goals in the game and our only other task was to choose man of the match and that honour went to our newest ambassador Grant McCann, who joined us in the Executive Suite after the game to receive his award and present us with signed match ball and shirt.
It was a brilliant evening, thanks go to the Posh hospitality team for looking after us so well and Dani and James for bringing the youngsters along.
