Rebecca’s Kick – Charlton Athletic v Peterborough United
Our second trip to London in a week took us to The Valley for the League 1 clash between play off rivals Charlton Athletic and Peterborough United. Thirteen year old Rebecca was our guest for the day after being nominated by our friends at Demelza Hospice, who we worked with last season at Crystal Palace.
I visited Demelza’s hospice in Eltham towards the end of last year and it is an amazing place that gives respite and care for over 600 children with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Kent, East Sussex and South East London. You can read more about their work here www.demelza.org.uk
Rebecca was given a tour of The Valley including the boardroom and the dressing room where she met the players and they signed her programme. Unfortunately due to the recent wet weather Rebecca wasn’t allowed on the pitch in her wheelchair so, instead of coming out of the tunnel with the team, she had the honour of accompanying Charlton manager Chris Powell to the dugout, before taking her seat to watch a thrilling match which Charlton won 3-2.
We would like to thank everybody at Charlton for their kindness and help in setting up and hosting Rebecca’s Kick.
