For the third season in a row we visited the Madejski Stadium, home of Reading, for a Kick. This year’s lucky lad was Rhys who was nominated by our good friend and Posh press officer Phil Adlam. We also met Rhys in the summer when he came along to be mascot at our Challenge:42 fundraiser.
Before the match we were delighted to catch up with Victor Schooling and his fellow Royals fans who took part in that epic challenge. The money raised over that weekend funded Rhys’ Kick so we managed to arrange, with the help of Shelly at the club, to get everybody pitchside for a cheque presentation to thank them for their efforts.
Rhys was already wearing his new kit when we met him in the reception at the stadium, then we were taken up into Loddon Room where he met his hosts for the night. He received his Royals goody bag and programme as well as a Free Kicks t shirt. He then went down to the dressing room where he got autographs and pictures with the players. Noel Hunt even made Rhys a special black armband so that he didn’t feel left out during the minutes applause for Gary Speed! He them had a kick about on the pitch, before having his picture taken with Kingsley!
Then it was time for Rhys to lead the team out on the pitch before taking his seat to watch as Reading came from 1 goal behind to beat the Posh 3-2! He did have an important job to do at half time though, he was selected to make the half time Golden Gamble draw on the pitch.
We would like to thank everybody at Reading FC, especially Gill and Shelley, for their help and all the publicity they gave us in the programme, on their website and on Twitter as well as their fantastic hospitality on the night.
