Due to there being no championship fixtures because of the international weekend, we decided to visit one of our favourite clubs again, Brentford FC. During last season Sam Saunders, Brentford’s number 7, had kindly agreed to being sponsored for every goal he scored and Bees fans generously backed this initiative, raising £317 through their pledges.
We contacted Brentford Community Sports Trust (BFCCST) who nominated Teejay to be our mascot for the game with Colchester United at Griffin Park. Teejay came along with his mum Marie and met us outside the main entrance to the stadium. We went inside to the Mascot’s room where Teejay was given his new kit and met his hosts and fellow mascots for the afternoon. From there it was time to go for a quick tour of the ground, a chance to sit in the dugout, before heading into the dressing room to meet the players and get his football and pennant signed. It was here Teejay got to meet Sam whose goals had funded his treat, as well as Brentford manager Uwe Rosler.
Ahead of kick off there was time for Teejay to show us his goalscoring skills during a kick about with the other mascots, before heading down the tunnel ready to come out with the teams. We all then took our seats in the stand to watch as Brentford snatched a 1-0 win with only 2 minutes left on the clock!
We would like to thank everybody at Brentford FC, BFCCST particularly Amy Crook, Peter Shears and Luis Melville for nominating Teejay. Also thanks to Luis for giving us the opportunity to spread the Free Kicks word on Bees Player before the game and, last but not least, Bees fans and Sam Saunders for their Sam’s Goals pledges.
We know Teejay had ‘the best day ever’ because he told us and that was before the game had even started!
