The first annual Free Kicks Golf Day for the Matt Davies Memorial Trophy was held last month at Toft Country House Hotel and Golf Club near Bourne. The weather forecast leading up to the day didn’t fill us with hope but, in the end, we were very lucky to only have one very short shower during the day.
We were honoured to be joined on the day by our ambassador Charlie Lee, Barnsley’s ex Posh goalkeeper Luke Steele and, last but not least, ex-Norwich and Scotland goalkeeper Bryan Gunn. The tournament was played in Stapleford format with 21 teams taking part and was eventually won by Ian Bird’s team, Birdy’s Boys.
After the golf finished we went back to the hotel where a fantastic hot buffet was laid on and everybody present was very generous when buying raffle tickets and bidding on our auction items.
The day was a huge success and thanks especially go to Graeme Smith, whose idea the day was and did an amazing amount of work to make the day happen, also thanks to Edmundson Electrical for their generous sponsorship and help recruiting hole sponsors and teams. Also thank you to everybody who played and supported us and helped us raise an amazing £7,000.
